# Deadlines

> Where deadlines in mory come from, where they appear and how to complete them.

Deadlines (**Fristen**) are reminder tasks that mory generates automatically from your master data. This page shows the sources, where deadlines are visible and how to work through them.

## What a deadline is

A deadline is a task of the type reminder. It has no checklist and no agent; it reminds you of something that needs action on a specific date. Deadlines appear separately from other tasks under **Meine Fristen** (My deadlines).

## Where deadlines come from

| Source                             | Example                                                                         |
| ---------------------------------- | ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- |
| Contract expiry and notice periods | A fixed-term tenancy ends in three months. |
| Rental options | An extension option must be exercised by a certain date. |
| Index and stepped rent | An indexed rent can be adjusted, a rent step becomes due. |
| Equipment maintenance | The field **Nächste Wartung** (Next maintenance) of an installation is reached. |
| Action required per property | Missing master data or a high vacancy rate. |

<Note>
  Deadlines from contracts are only generated when the contract data is recorded correctly: contract end, notice period, option, index and stepped rent in the **Mietverhältnis** (Tenancy) tab of the unit. See [Units and tenancies](/en/management/units-tenancies).
</Note>

## Where deadlines appear

* **Aufgaben › Meine Fristen**: all deadlines you are responsible for
* **Dashboard › Fristen & Indizes**: options, terms, index & stepped rent and maintenance at a glance, filtered by client and property manager
* **Liegenschaft › Handlungsbedarf** (Action required): deadlines and missing data of a single property
* **Einheit** (Unit): deadlines related to the unit's tenancy

## Colors

Deadlines are colored by urgency:

| Color         | Meaning                        |
| ------------- | ------------------------------ |
| Red | urgent, date reached or passed |
| Orange        | due soon                       |
| Green or grey | on the radar, still time |

Exact thresholds may differ depending on configuration.

## Completing a deadline

<Steps>
  <Step title="Open the deadline">
    Click the deadline in My deadlines or on the dashboard. The context (property, unit, contract or equipment) is linked.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Take action">
    Carry out the actual task, for example send the termination confirmation or commission the maintenance. If a full workflow is needed, create a [new task](/en/tasks/create-task) and link it to the deadline.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Close the deadline">
    Set the deadline's status to **Completed**. It moves to the **Archiv** (Archive).
  </Step>
</Steps>

## Linking a document to a deadline

Upload a document to **Datenbank** (Documents), for example the maintenance report, and enter the deadline's task number in the document. The document then appears in the deadline's Documents tab.

<Tip>
  If an expected deadline is missing, first check the unit's contract fields or the equipment's Next maintenance field. Once the data is added, mory generates the deadline automatically.
